End of Season Stowage

Aide-memoire:

Autopilot:
Disconnect the autopilot control and the motor from the binnacle . (It takes a while to unwind all the cabling that is wrapped around the binnacle.) Place in a plastic bag or some other recepticle and return to the radio cupboard behind the chart table

Bedding:
Fold quilts and place in vacuum bags. Sit on or otherwise flatten the bags to remove as much air as possible then seal the bags by running the blue plastic pincers that are designed for this purpose along the seal line of the bags. Do this several times to ensure a tight seal. The pump can then be used to remove any remaining air if this looks neccessary. Repeat the process with pillows. Store the bags in the Aft Cabin as it's probably the driest place on the boat. Lift the matress and store the bedding bags under it, making sure that air can circulate under the matress. Make sure the two small hatches are securely fastened.
Vacuum bags are kept on the long shelf in the Aft Cabin.

Bimini:
Remove the Bimini once the solar panel and cockpit lights have been removed. Secure the Bimini frame to the Backstays using cable ties. Cable ties are located in the orange toolbox under the companionway steps.

Boat Hooks:
Remove the boat hooks from their attached positions on the shrouds and store on the saloon floor.

Cockpit Lights: remove these, place in a bag and stow them in the saloon in the small starboard cupboard by the companionway bulkhead.

Cockpit Table:
Remove the table and make secure using the table bungee. Stow under the saloon table.

Cushions and soft furnishings:
Spread these around the saloon so that air can circulate around them.

Dinghy:
Deflate the dinghy and clean thoroughly, making sure the floorboards and the two straps that hold the boards together are also cleaned. Wormcasts that occur on the bottom of the dinghy can be removed with an abrasive sponge, like those used for cleaning the dishes. A stiff scrubbing brush is also useful. Cif will help too.
Allow the dinghy to dry before folding. A dusting of talcum powder will prevent folded surfaces from sticking to each other. The dinghy, boards, straps and seat should all go into one of the larger spare sail bags. Place the dinghy in the chart table area.

Fenders:
Clean fenders and replace socks where necessary. Fenders are placed in the cockpit locker once the boat has been put on the hard standing. Please ask the YC to do this after they've delivered the boat to the hard standing.

Flags:
Remove both flags and check for wear and tear. These can be sourced from Nidri if new ones are needed.

Horse Shoe Life Belt and Sling Bag:
Place under the saloon table.

Life Raft:
Remove the life raft from its position on the pushpit and place on the floor under the saloon table. It is really heavy so care will be needed when lifting it onto the boat and down into the saloon.

Man Overboard Marker Bouy (Search and Rescue Transponder):
Store in the cockpit locker or on the floor in the saloon if no room there.

Outboard Motor:
Make sure the carburettor has run dry before storing the engine. This avoids deposits building up in it and making it difficult to start in future. The engine can then be put into its cover and stored in the Cockpit locker. Another heavy item that requires care when handling.

Sails:
Remove the sails and take ashore to inspect them on the quay. If reairs are needed contact the sail makers and arrange for them to be collected. It they are ok fold carefully and place into a sail bag. There is a bag for each sail. The sails are stored under the matress in the forward cabin. Raise the matress as high as possible to allow air to circulate under it.

Solar Panel:
Unfasten the panel and store in the Aft Cabin once the quilts and pillows have been placed under the mattress there. This is a delicate piece of equipment and care should be taken when moving it. Put plastic bags over each of the panel connectors that remain attached to the backsatays and fasten the bags in place using electricians tape. This is to prevent water ingress.

Spray Hood:
Remove the sprayhood and the long securing tapes that are fixed to the saloon roof. Fold the parts carefully and store with the Bimini

Water Tanks:
Drain all the water tanks.

Wheel:
A large circular cover goes over the wheel and binnacle. This should be left out in the saloon for the YC staff. Ask them to put it on once the boat has been positioned on the hard standing for the winter.
